Livable Communities Research

At CREWS, we are constantly exploring ways to encourage livable community features like connectivity, alternate travel modes and digital alternatives to travel. Our engineering background provides a strong quantitative foundation for establishing the benefits and appropriate applications for these features.
We have and are currently exploring several topics of interest including:
- The land use limitations of roadway network types (connected vs. cloistered, 2 lane vs. multilane)
- The impacts of telecommuting on peak hour travel
- Peak hour tripmaking and its implications for land use mixes that reduce congestion
- Travel time comparisons for network systems vs. a single major intersection
- The impacts of Safe Routes to Schools initiatives on long term mode split
